Founded in 1274 by Henry III, King of England, Pellegrue is a bastide town perched on a rocky spur 112 m above sea level. Its location on the Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne borders makes it a remarkable site, with its castles, churches and varied landscapes. At the center of the square is a 19th-century metal covered market hall, originally made of wood. Also noteworthy is the town hall, with its belfry and bell dating back to the 12th century. Pellegrue also boasts no less than five churches. The most popular is Saint-André, in the shape of a Latin cross, with a13th-century Byzantine-inspired dome.
