Located 15 km from Porte Maillot, La Frette-sur-Seine sits on a hillside along the Seine. Still a residential area today, its delightful setting offers an area of tranquillity that, as early as 1900, was chosen as a holiday resort by Parisians. Painters such as Albert Marquet, who settled here, found it a place of inspiration. The town's name comes from the word "fret", indicating the importance of its past port activity, and the passage of barges still enlivens the landscape. The houses, some with original architectural styles, have survived without overshadowing the church of Saint-Nicolas, built in the 12th and 13th centuries.
