Two rivers anchor Villeneuve-Saint-Georges: the Seine, which in the Middle Ages could be crossed on foot at the ford of Villeneuve, and the Yerres, which rises southwest of Coulommiers, flows for 88 km before flowing into the Seine at Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. Thus bordered by the Seine, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges offers a charming walking site. The banks of the Seine have indeed been the subject of large-scale rehabilitation with the assistance of the Val-de-Marne Department over 2,200 metres of Port Bergeron, upstream, at the boundary of the municipality with Choisy-le-Roi, downstream. The aim was to preserve and enhance the ecological value of the riverbanks while creating a bicycle path. The citizens are involved, under the supervision of the OSE association, they participate each year, in spring, in a clean-up of the banks, along the Triage district, in order to allow the riverside vegetation to flourish. The municipality is home to one of the ports of Paris (HaRoPa).
