The development of Nogent-sur-Marne dates back to the 12th century, when the church of Saint-Saturnin was built and vineyards were planted. The site was appreciated by the Parisian nobility and bourgeoisie, who built country houses there. At the end of the 19th century, the railroad brought in industries and dance halls that attracted the inhabitants of the capital, the era of the "little white wine". Nogent is also home to one of the former pavilions of the Halles de Paris, the Baltard pavilion. With its built heritage, its green spaces and its proximity to the Bois de Vincennes, Nogent now has nearly 32,000 inhabitants.
