Bordered by Ormesson-sur-Marne, Chennevières-sur-Marne, Pontault-Combault, Noiseau, Sucy-en-Brie, Santeny and Lésigny, this commune takes its name from Cauda, a Latin toponym attested to in the 12th century and which means "tail" in the Oïl language, i.e. "end of a meadow or a pond" or "wood with an elongated and narrow shape". Of its past remains among others the ruins of its tower of the XIIth and XIIIth c. and destroyed during the Hundred Years War, its church Saint-Nicolas of the XIth and XIIth c. One can also see its fountain and its wash-house of the Lais stone, the old village of the Briard type or the castle of the Hermitage built in the 17th century.
