Saint-Ouen was founded in the early Middle Ages as a dependency of the Abbey of Saint-Denis. In 1830, a finance company opened a canal port and docks. It was during this period that rapid industrialization began. Today, after some difficult decades linked to the economic crisis, Saint-Ouen, with a population of almost 50,000, is a dynamic town - many service companies have set up there - where the tradition of the flea market, which has retained all its renown, lives on. The city, now linked to the capital by metro line 14, will be at the heart of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
