Montreuil, a vast city bordering Paris to the east, has more than 108,000 inhabitants and is the fifth most populated city in the region. Benefiting from an excellent public transport service, it has been enjoying a new lease of life since the 1990s, with the arrival of many Parisian executives, attracted by the relative attractiveness of property prices. Today, Montreuil remains a city divided between the "Bas Montreuil", where the "bobos" settle in these districts of small houses and gardens, and the "Haut Montreuil", more disadvantaged. In between, the town hall district, in the process of restructuring. However, few know that the former territory of Montreuil included the territories of Bagnolet and Vincennes in the 13th century, that the city was the setting for important market gardening cultures in the Middle Ages (mainly peaches and grapes), some rare remains of which still exist. Many still know that the first film studios in the world were established here in 1896, and that the city was the first in the Paris region to be liberated on August 19, 1944. A young city with a bright future, Montreuil is nevertheless rich in a past that should not be overlooked.
