Vulaine first appeared in the form villa Velcina in 790, a toponym referring to villa , which in Antiquity was used to designate a vast agricultural holding, and later certain rural settlements founded between the 6th and 11th centuries. In the 15th century, Vulaine - then called Villaines - depended on the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques de Melun, founded in the 11thcentury... Vulaines officially became Vulaines-sur-Seine in the 19th century, to distinguish it from Vulaines-lès-Provins. Vulaine's attractions include the Musée Stéphane Mallarmé, the Parc d'Erceville, the Château des Brulys dating from 1907 and a beautiful hiking trail to Héricy.
