The history of Vaux-le-Pénil goes back to prehistoric times with the first traces of occupation observed near the Chérisy mound (flints...). However, the most recent periods remain the best documented with its castle (closed) - ancient citadel advanced when the kings of France resided in Melun in the 11th and 12th centuries. - whose current appearance dates from the 18thcentury . In the 20th c. Joffre stayed there during the first battle of the Marne in September 1914. Vaux-le-Pénil was a small town turned towards agriculture (with its market gardeners, gardeners, winegrowers...), but after the Second World War it became progressively urbanized.
