The name Saint-Rémy-de-la-Vanne first appeared in 1135 as Sanctus Rémigius de Venna. However, its proximity to Roman road networks suggests an earlier existence. The toponym may refer to a fishpond or fishing pond, from the Latin venna, or even a peat bog, from the Gallic veen or vehen... testimony to the close relationship between water and this village, located not far from the Grand Morin river and boasting an artificial pond created in 1974. The pond is ideal for walks and leisure activities such as fishing and canoeing. The village is also adjacent to an 18th-century industrial mill, now owned by the town and home to seven springs.
