Bordering the ancient forest of Bierre and the Loing, a passageway between the Seine and Loire valleys, Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours has been occupied since prehistoric times, near the springs of La Joie and Chaintréauville. The medieval village grew up around Saint-Pierre church. And it was on the left bank of the Loing that the Abbey of La Joie-lès-Nemours was founded in the 13th century. Prosperous thanks to the Loing and its canal, through which many commodities and raw materials once passed, the town is undoubtedly a water-filled place. In addition to its heritage, the Rochers-Gréau forest is a popular place for rock climbing and hiking.
