Although traces of occupation prior to Antiquity have been attested to in this commune, its existence is only really attested to in the Middle Ages with the mention of a village of Noisiel (Nucedo) in writings from the 9th century and a village from the 11th to the 12th century organized around a flour mill and a church dedicated to Saint-Médard. In the 15th century, Noisiel (at the time Noisiellum) is mentioned as being part of a river network ensuring the transport of goods to Paris. Around the 17th century a castle was built west of Noisiel. To the south there was also the castle of Luzard, which has now disappeared. However, it was not until the 19th century that Noisiel experienced significant development with the arrival of the Menier family in 1825, when the mill ceased to function. It was transformed into a pharmaceutical powder factory. Gradually the family business established an industrial empire exclusively devoted to the production of chocolate. The famous Meunier chocolate! An adventure that ended in 1963, when the Menier family sold its assets. You will be able to see the buildings of the first Menier factories (head office of Nestlé France until 2020) listed as historical monuments (Saulnier mill, Eiffel hall, cathedral and Hardi bridge...), the Buisson farm whose buildings are those of the old farm bought by the Meniers in 1879 and the Saint-Médard church in Romanesque style. You should also know that Noisiel has 214 hectares of green spaces, including a 90-hectare park, which makes it a truly privileged place for walking!
