In 1855, Durfort-Vivens received its classification of Second Cru Classé of Médoc. The cru is taken over in 1937 by the Société du Château Margaux, of which the Lurton family is then one of the major shareholders. The wines were then vinified at Château Margaux, until 1961, where Lucien Lurton, already owner of the Brane-Cantenac castle becomes purchaser. This passionate and great connoisseur of wine terroirs rehabilitates the vineyard. In 1992, his son Gonzague inherited the property which is then provided with a new cellar and a new vat cellar. Neat harvest and careful wine-making enhance the typical features of the grape, which gives a deep and elegant wine. The vine population is divided between Cabernet-Sauvignon (66%), Merlot (24%) and Cabernet-Franc (6%). The ageing is done in oak barrels with fine grain of the forests of central France, for 18 months on average.
