An imposing medieval city once situated on the border between the kingdom of France and the duchy of Burgundy, this Capetian fortress was annexed in 1068, and was a favorite of Louis VII and Philippe Auguste. The best view of the town is from the east, before crossing the old 12th-century bridge.
