The name Listrac comes from the Latin lista or listra, meaning "edge, limit". The commune straddles the watershed between the Gironde and the Atlantic lakes. Its history has always been linked to that of wine, as evidenced by the privileged links it has maintained since ancient times with the ports of Lamarque and Cussac, located on the estuary. The church, with its Romanesque and Gothic influences, has retained its character intact. The importance of art doesn't stop there: the painter Odilon Redon often drew inspiration for his canvases from the Listrac area, even immortalizing his home in Peyrelebade.
