The town built its reputation on the paper industry. Construction of Saint-Sulpice church began in the 13th century, but only a few columns and the bases of the 6 choir columns date from this period. Destroyed during the Hundred Years' War, the church was rebuilt in the late 15th century by the de Brie family, including Louis, advisor to Louis XI, known as l'araignée. Louis Lefèvre de Caumartin, Keeper of the Seals under Louis XIII, acquired the seigneury in 1608. It remained in the family until the Revolution, when it was sold as national property. Dedicated to Saints Laurent and Sulpice, the church contains a number of statues classified as historical monuments.
