A museum built in the century, located on the edge of the Luxembourg Gardens, designed to exhibit works of art.
When the Palais du Luxembourg was built for Marie de Médicis in the 17th century, a gallery was created specifically for exhibiting works of art. With the allocation of the palace to the Senate in the early 19thcentury , in 1884 the upper house built the building that today houses the museum, and in 2010 entrusted the Réunion des Musées Nationaux with the management of the site. Located on the edge of the Luxembourg Gardens, it regularly hosts remarkable temporary exhibitions (Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso at the time of writing).
