Petit Futé's opinion on THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL CRYPT OF THE ISLAND OF THE CITY

Vintage plate 2020

The entrance to the crypt of Notre-Dame is a few steps from the cathedral, just in front of it. Once you descend into the depths of the square, you will enjoy a unique panoramic view of the urban and architectural evolution of Ile de la Cité. By discovering the successive buildings in the historic heart of Paris, from antiquity to the 20th century, the visitor travels back in time. Quay of the port of ancient Lutetia, establishment of Gallo-Roman public baths, medieval remains of Rue Neuve-Notre-Dame, traces of Haussmann sewers: the past, the ancient, the medieval and the classic are within easy reach. It is possible to use your "Museum Pass" for entry because the crypt is one of the 14 Parisian museums managed by the organization.
