MARCHÉ DES ENFANTS-ROUGES

Covered market and market hall
4.5/5
8 reviews

Welcome to the oldest food market in Paris, at the corner of rue de Bretagne and rue Charlot! The atmosphere here is rather family, bobo version. The main food trades are represented, with the presence of some organic producers and oyster farmers. However, there are few fruits and vegetables, and prices are rather high. People come to Les Enfants-Rouges to shop as much as to eat. The choice is varied, with stands offering Moroccan, Italian, Asian and Lebanese specialities... Some of them can be tasted on the spot, but you should know that places are expensive, especially at weekends.

LA CHOCOLATERIE DE JACQUES GÉNIN

Chocolatier

Jacques Genin's setting is very uncluttered: white walls blend with brick columns. Here, we dare to mix and match, with a single credo: the extreme quality of our cocoa. One of the house's specialties is the millefeuille, prepared à la minute in the laboratory overlooking the boutique. Available in chocolate, praline or caramel, not forgetting the lemon tart or the assortment of six chocolates that are sure to tempt all gourmets.

The Barav is a restaurant, a bar and a cellar. A small fine grocery store is filled with a few very well selected and high quality products. We will only talk about the cellar which has about 300 references from the vineyard of France and the world from 4 €… It is a cellar that moves: tasting 2 times a month, meetings with wine growers, exceptional operations, loyalty cards… It is kept by passionate people and must be guided by supplies.

TARTES KLUGER- LE COMPTOIR

Patisserie
4/5
1 review

We knew the restaurant Les Tartes Kluger, today there is the counter, installed in an ancient horse horse right next to Rose Bakery. This is the new, épurée point of sale of Catherine Kugler. Prepared with seasonal products, all salted or sweet pies are made on site and house. From the counter, you can see the preparation of the pies that you are ordering or you are looking for. 6,50 € per salt share and 5 € for sweet. The 25 € brunch is quite correct.

PÂTISSERIE BONTEMPS

Patisserie

Sablé, everyone knows. But Fiona Leluc's sablé comes from the common. This young woman, whose father has a very well-known Lebanese table, left the world of finance for the softer of the pastry. From Lebanon it has kept taste and oriental flavours, but with a Breton husband unable to escape salt and sablé. So why not drop this little cake to make it the flagship product of its pastry? It's a good idea because it's off from its sablé sablé, which accompanies tea or coffee. And its sablé inspired by the Paris-Brest, where the very fine praline cream is topped with a walnut of slightly roasted piedmont? A pleasure… We fear that the fruit of passion, the banana boom, etc., all these sanded, very sweet, are fondants, light and their leaking hearts. They are either individually or in a more family-friendly format, sometimes in flower form. Another nice surprise: an extremely perfumed lemon cake. In this adventure, Fiona led his sister Fatina, a photographer who has an eye for the garden. The bakery has a boudoir where, on the other hand, we do not boycott our pleasure…

This is a reference brand in terms of rum, with a name that cleverly plays on the words "aroma" and "rum". Its ambition is to highlight all the richness of this beverage, produced throughout the world. In total, more than 500 references, with occasional gins, cognacs, cachaça (basic ingredient of the caipirinha)... Frankly, in Paris, it is difficult to find an equivalent in this field! An address where rum lovers will find their happiness, without any doubt, and which regularly organizes tasting workshops.

LA NOUVELLE CAVE

Sale of wines and spirits

It's no longer a wine shop, it's an experience: if La Nouvelle Cave has a classic name, the location, right in the heart of the Marais, is already less so. Pink and grey, airy, it's a welcome change from the piles of crates and boxes. It's also the chance to take part in regular workshops, led of course by experts, and covering a wide spectrum, from wine to beer to cocktails. This is definitely a place like no other, where a warm welcome is not an empty word. Definitely worth a try.

J. BARTHOUIL

Foie gras producer

Established in Peyrehorade, in the south of the Landes, for ages, the Barthouil family went to the capital, as they used to say, and opened two stores there: one on rue Charlot and the second in the5th arrondissement, rue Monge. This noble house, initially specialized in foie gras preserves, has over time added new strings to its bow: the production of old-fashioned smoked salmon and taramas, boutargue, other fish eggs, caviars, not to mention cooked dishes (confits, duck breast, cassoulet...).
