The Place des Victoires has been given a circular shape to reproduce a solar disk, the emblem of Louis XIV

Place des Victoires was designed and built by Louis XIV's architect, Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Inaugurated in 1686, it is shaped like a circle. The 17th-century mansions lining the square can still be admired today. This aesthetic helps to perpetuate the elegant charm of this space, which has served as a model for the design of squares in many French cities. The central equestrian statue of Louis XIV, by François-Joseph Bosio, dates from 1822.

Do not forget the church behind the place Notre Dame des victoires of Jesuitic style with its 35000ex-votos of thanks to the Virgin mary since 1835 and cénothaphe of Lully high on the 2nd chapel on the left of the entrance. Beautiful paintings of Van Loo around the chancel.
beautiful square, large and stylish with its beautiful private mansions and the equestrian statue of Louis XIV. but it is better to go there on foot: difficult parking! enjoy in to visit the Basilique Notre-Dame des Victories on the square of the small Fathers right behind!
