It offers numerous footpaths, bridle paths and touring cyclists and about covers an area of 995 acres (it is the green area most important in Paris), with 140,000 trees and houses nearly 150 bird species. It is a remnant of the old belt of forests surrounding Lutèce. First a royal hunting reserve, it is open to the public by Louis XV.
