Since 1925, it has been the first venue to screen avant-garde films for an audience of connoisseurs, marking the birth of avant-garde cinema in France. Surrealist and cubist friends André Breton, René Clair and Fernand Léger attended the ^1st screening in 1926. Two years later, the Studio was marked by scandal when a screening of Antonin Artaud's La Coquille et le Clergyman led to a brawl with Breton and Aragon as instigators. Since then, the Studio des Ursulines has calmed down and welcomes young audiences and film buffs to discover avant-garde works, as well as animated films and ciné-club sessions.
