Dassault Systèmes, the Cité de l'architecture & du patrimoine and the Direction régionale des Affaires Culturelles de Nouvelle-Aquitaine have joined forces to offer a virtual journey through the entire Lascaux cave. The cave, which houses exceptional paintings and engravings dating back to prehistoric times, was discovered in 1940, classified as a historical monument three years later and closed to the public in 1963. It is thus in the heart of Paris that the public is invited to discover the virtual twin of the Lascaux cave. Groups of up to six people are equipped with a backpack and a virtual reality headset, and stroll through the 235 meters of galleries that make up the Sistine Chapel of prehistory, accompanied by a guide and lecturer and with the possibility of interacting through avatars. With an unprecedented realism, people put themselves in the shoes of the heritage curators and scientists who are now the only ones able to enter the original cave.
