Created in 1883, Malakoff is one of the most recent communes of the Hauts-de-Seine. It owes its name to a Parisian promoter, Alexandre Chauvelot who had a reconstruction of the Malakoff defensive tower erected there around 1850 (in memory of Captain Vladimir Malakhov) which existed at that time in Sebastopol, to celebrate the victories of the Crimean War. Originally, the territory of Malakoff connecting Vanves and Montrouge, was only pastures. It is only at the end of the 18th century that a first hamlet was established, at the intersection of the current boulevard Gabriel-Péri and the D906. Little by little, the area developed until it became the commune of Malakoff in 1883.
