Yerres was settled along its small river, whose surroundings are a pleasant place to walk. The first traces of activity date back to the 12th century, when a Benedictine abbey was established there. The abbey Notre-Dame counted up to 40 nuns and had a real influence until the Revolution. Yerres was also home to the Budé family; the lords built a castle there in the 15th century. A monastery of Camaldules, monks from Italy, settled in the village in the 17th century. In the 19th century, Caillebotte painted more than 80 canvases in the family property which today bears his name. It is also in Yerres that Pierre Larrouse finished writing his dictionary
