Situated only 3 kilometres from Sauternes, this commune is at the junction of the Pays de la vigne - Graves wines - and the Pays du bois. Although the Romans established a small settlement not far from the Ciron, it was after the invasions of the 4th and 5th centuries that some of the invaders settled in the area, where they founded the present-day village on a rocky outcrop. A stone dungeon called La Tourasse can be seen at 500 m from there in a small valley.
