The Milly estate was first under the control of Fulbert, lord of the armies of Dagobert (who was crowned king here). Destroyed during the Hundred Years' War, Milly was rebuilt and fortified in the 15th century on the initiative of Admiral Louis Malet de Graville. Take a look at the present-day market hall and castle, which date back to this period. Today, Milly-la-Forêt is a peaceful little town, bustling with life during the traditional Thursday afternoon market and the many tourists who visit at weekends. Milly-la-Forêt was also the last residence of Jean Cocteau, who died here in 1963.
