Since the 1970's, the territory of the commune has been the object of archaeological excavations after the fortuitous discovery of a flint deposit in a field which turned out to be one of the most important Magdalenian sites in Europe (around 15,000 BC). Another notoriety : Madame de Pompadour, favorite of Louis XV, lived there. But the past of Etiolles also remains with the Saint-Martin church of the 12th and 13th centuries. Its environment, as for it, allows beautiful walks in the heart of the forest of Sénart from the pheasantry, old hunting lodge of the XVIIIth century. For more information, contact the Seine-Essonne-Sénart Tourist Office.
