Petit Futé's opinion on TEICH BIRD SANCTUARY

The ornithological reserve of Teich is a real place of predilection for the reception of the migratory or sedentary birds.
The superb Ornithological Reserve of Teich is a place of predilection for the reception of migratory or sedentary birds. It is made up of reeds, marshes, meadows, lagoons, and each year 300 000 birds transit there. It is accessible during the day, respecting the tranquility of the birds. It is imperative to be discreet and silent. The permanent staff are, according to their skills, at your disposal to obtain practical information or to reveal the best ornithological opportunities of the moment. The route (6 km) is also punctuated with numerous information panels to help you understand the natural phenomena. It is strictly forbidden to deviate from these signs. Twenty closed observation huts line the trail at the most favorable places to see the birds. They are located approximately every 300 meters and allow a comfortable visit, whatever the weather. Six exterior viewpoints, two of which are elevated, offer a view of the landscapes of the Reserve or its surroundings. They are also excellent places to observe the active migration. The path is very accessible, even in city shoes. Allow a minimum of three to four hours to walk around the site. A shortcut is available for people with mobility difficulties or small children. For people with reduced mobility, an adapted itinerary is proposed, avoiding the observatories with stairs or the steep slopes of the path. Privileged visits take place in the evening in summer, allowing to discover the marsh at dusk, then the arrival of the night disrupting the behavior of the birds. The Maison de la Nature du Bassin d'Arcachon is in charge of educational interventions on the Reserve. Every Wednesday, two paying training courses are offered, limited to 15 people. The first one is an initiation privileging the observation on the Reserve. The second one is an improvement allowing to sharpen one's look. The themes are the wintering of birds, reproduction and songbirds, waders allowing the deciphering of plumages, larids (gulls and seagulls). You also have the weekend version of training to be carried out over four precise periods, according to the rhythm of the life of the birds. The closing time is always respected, so you are required to scrupulously respect the time of exit of the site planned according to the seasons.
