The Church of Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc, built in 1979, features beautiful stained glass windows.
Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc was built in 1979. Its architect, Louis Arretche, wanted to give the building the shape of an overturned boat. He revived the principles of traditional shipbuilding by creating an exposed wooden structure above the nave. As the church is below the nave, the view is impressive, both from the narthex (raised part) and from the fish-shaped exterior openings. Very beautiful stained glass windows to be seen from the inside.

Surprenante église Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc. Un peu grise vue de l'extérieur, sous ses murs de béton, elle est superbement lumineuse à l'intérieur. Des vitraux très colorés occupent tout un côté de ce remarquable édifice; C'est un lieu paisible, qui me semble avoir été créé pour la Jeunesse, peut-être la jeunesse éternelle de Jeanne? C'est ici même que se dressait son bûcher. poignant donc, et même le porte-bougies est une flamme métallique qui tournoie vers le ciel... Lieu incontournable de Rouen, extrêmement touchant!

Malgré son structure en bêton, plutôt grise d'extérieur, l'intérieur de cette église surprend par sa luminosité et richesse en couleurs. La distribution est assez moderne, mais pas si chocante, plutôt conviviale. Bien place sur la Place du Vieux Marché, proche du centre-ville, la visite de cet église vaut le détour.
