Lillebonne is undoubtedly one of the department's most historically rich towns, as evidenced by its outstanding monuments, sites and localities. Capital of the Calètes tribe, the rise of this site, originally called Juliobona, was initially linked to its Gallo-Roman port. Numerous archaeological discoveries since the 19th century, including the recent uncovering of a series of shops along a Roman road (Place Carnot), bear witness to the city's influence. Many objects, such as the beautiful stag-hunting mosaic, have been added to the collections of the Musée départemental des Antiquités de Rouen.
