In the heart of the Libourne region, between Castillon-la-Bataille and Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, you will find the charming, and it's an understatement to say it, commune of Gensac. Classified as an "ancient village", the place does not lack character. The old fortified town overlooks the Durèze and Dordogne valleys. As for history, Gensac has no shortage of that either! Besieged during the Hundred Years' War, during the wars of religion, the old town has old-style cobbled streets, remains of ramparts and medieval facades. Small curiosity of the village: the 15th century house called "maison aux chats", located just next to the tourist office. She is easily identifiable thanks to her stone carving. It was there that Pierre d'Escodéca de Boisse, Lord of Pardaillan, was murdered on 14 February 1621. Thanks to Michel Zévaco, a famous cloak and sword novelist of the early 20th century, the character took on a truly legendary dimension. During the summer period, the village is entirely transported back to medieval times on the occasion of local festivals. The festival of Gensac which takes place in August is a great opportunity to enjoy beautiful classical music concerts.
