At the heart of the Durdent valley, on the road to the coast, Cany-Barville had both to suffer and to rejoice from its geographical location. Inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by the remains found during archaeological digs, the town suffered greatly from the wars that bloodied the Pays de Caux. Nevertheless, a varied trade (ink, oil...) has always flourished here. The town also benefited from an important textile industry, thanks to the many mills lining the river. Today, a visit to the château and market town is a charming stopover, complemented by the beautiful leisure center on Lac de Caniel.
