Bénouville is not a common village. Founded by the Scandinavian Bjornulfr in the 11th century, its church was donated by Richard the Lionheart to the priory of the Madeleine in Rouen in the 12th century. Noble families settled there and built first a fortress and then a Louis XV style castle that can still be admired today: made of local marl, it is unique in the region and its classical dimensions make it a fine example of the refined architecture of the time. Bénouville is also the territory of the aiguille de Belval and Roc Vaudieu, natural elevations that defy the sea and offer a breathtaking spectacle. To get to the beach, the parish priest, in 1883, had a staircase of 283 steps made in the cliff which took, since then, the name of valleuse of the priest, until in 2001 the structure was definitively damaged by a significant scree. So what should we do today? See you on rue des Terriens!
