Like a lighthouse, like an island in the middle of the Landes forest. Captieux, its name refers to the "tip" or "chief" of the great forest. If the origin of the commune goes back to the Gallo-Roman period, its history has been erased by various destructions. There are no remains of the powerful walled town that Captieux was in the Middle Ages. No trace remains of the castle, the ramparts, or the convent of cordeliers with its hospice which welcomed the many pilgrims on their way to Compostela in difficulty in the Landes forest. Later, Captieux experienced a major boom with the exploitation of pine resin and, even more recently, with the establishment of a military camp.
