Cadillac, a 13th-century bastide fortified in the 14thcentury , lies on the right bank of the Garonne, some 30 km south of Bordeaux. The town was founded in 1280 by Jean de Grailly, seneschal of Aquitaine, for King Henry III of England. The town has preserved some fine remains of its 14th-century fortifications, as well as its rectangular island layout. The best thing to do is leave your car along the ramparts and walk around the town, not forgetting a visit to the beautiful Château des Ducs d'Epernon. The vineyards of Cadillac-sur-Garonne produce a renowned wine that you'd be wrong not to discover.
