Between the forest of Lime and Salins-les-Bains, Cookie inherited a centuries-old tradition of wood work. The municipality is thus home to a renowned technical school of wood. Created in 1883, it was first the School of Bois, one of the first primary schools of the Third Republic. It later became the only Lycée in France where the teaching focused solely on timber work. Cookie also houses the European Institute for the Training of the Companions, also specialised in timber trades. The Companions are trained here alternately before their famous tour of France.
