The villages of Beliet to the north and Belin to the south merged in 1974. The town has retained its former layout, with two villages now forming the most densely built-up areas. Belin-Beliet still retains a number of buildings dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The former Belin girls' school now houses the Maison du Parc Naturel Régional des Landes de Gascogne. The commune is 80% forested, with the Leyre River running through it. Attractions include the 11th-century Mons church and the miraculous Saint-Clair fountain. Situated on the "Way of Tours", Belin-Beliet is still a stopover for many pilgrims.
