Although Bracon is a small municipality of 330 inhabitants adjacent to the town of Salins-les-Bains, it has a significant influence over history. It is first the birthplace of Saint Claude, patron of Franche-Comté, born in 607 in the Castle of Bracon, which unfortunately leaves no trace. A remnant remains, however, when the region was under the dependence of the Dukes of Burgundy. It is a remarkable linden, listed in the anthologies of the finest trees in France. Charles the Bold planted him for the wedding of his daughter Marie de Bourgogne in 1477. It is still there today, impressive with its 13,50 m circumference and its 25 m high. To see it, take, in the centre of Bracon, Ivory direction.
