Baume-les-Messieurs, a Burgundy-Franche-Comté town of character and one of France's most beautiful villages, is an extraordinary place, in the heart of the Jura's most typical "reculée", at the confluence of the Seille and Dard rivers. From the reculée, you can admire layers of accumulated rock, with "end-of-the-world" cirques in cul-de-sacs. One of these shelters a spectacular grotto that attracts thousands of visitors, camouflaged by a tufa waterfall. This unassuming site was the ideal location for a monastery where, in the 10th century, the strict rule of St. Benedict was followed. You'll find yourself enjoying silent strolls along the banks of the Seille.
