The village of Vitrac, once a stronghold on the Dordogne river, still boasts the 12th-century church of Saint-Martin, listed as a historic monument in 1925 and open daily. Nearby, the village of Montfort, which encircles a castle (privately owned) that was destroyed several times and largely rebuilt in the 20th century, is well worth exploring, as the houses have retained their medieval character and the setting is soothing. A footpath leads to the Dordogne, which flows at the foot of the rocky spur crowned by the castle. The "chemin des pêcheurs" (fishermen's path) takes you close to the parking lot, after crossing the vegetation that has covered the old port.
