Between Périgueux and Bergerac, this county town was the capital of the strawberry... We are far from the great era, when local production represented a quarter of the national volume, but the strawberry still inspires a beautiful spring festival. Around 1290, Edward I and Count Archambaud II created the village as a bastide called Vern (the name of the tributary of the Isle). The traces of this bastide are almost non-existent today. On one of the squares, the very well restored market hall is built with imposing cylindrical stone pillars. The large church has interesting contemporary stained glass windows and superb paintings by Raymond Biaussat.
