The H-shaped English bastide of Beaumont, founded in 1272 by King Edward I of England, is one of the new bastidvilles of the Middle Ages, born of the desire of the kings of England and France to increase their influence in a sensitive area where the Dordogne and Dropt acted as borders between the two kingdoms. In creating these new towns, the founders undertook to give the inhabitants a charter of customs which granted them franchises and privileges and developed a new way of life here. The visit can be done on your own or with the help of the Tourist Office guides. To be discovered for a trip back in time!
