The village is famous for the caves that give it its name, in particular Pietra Tafonata, the pierced stone. Twice a year, on April 6 and September 8 (around the spring and autumn equinoxes) and in fine weather, the sun appears at around 6 p.m. through the hole in the rock, lighting up the village square with its rays. Above Speloncato, you can still see the ruins of the fortress built by the village's lords. They belonged to the Savelli family from Balagne, but were constantly at odds with their cousins from Sant'Antonino. Further on, at I Bagni, excavations have uncovered Roman baths.
