Behind this beautiful name, there is a bishop of Naples in the 6th century, called Pomponius, who became Saint-Pompont. The first mention of his name for the village dates back to 1269. Why the village was named after him is another story! This doesn't prevent you from enjoying strolling through the small streets of the village to discover its pretty houses, the Castelviel castle overlooking the Lousse valley, the 12th century hospital, the old city gate classified as a historical monument, as well as the Mespoulet and Saint-Pompont castles, the Romanesque church and the Grilloux monument
