The famous Calanches de Piana are a fantastic mineral landscape as if carved out of the red granite rocks with a surrealist cut. Since 1983, the Calanches of Piana have been classified on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are 3 ways to discover the creeks: by car, on foot and by boat. The great classic is to take the only road that connects the villages of Piana and Porto: the D81. But the narrowness of the road and the crowds in summer will not allow you to fully enjoy the landscape. It is obviously on foot that you can really enjoy the exceptional character of the site. In season, there is a crazy world on the few marked trails that are easy to spot because that's where the human caterpillar moves and it's better to get up early in the morning to enjoy the relative coolness and tranquility. One of the easiest is the one that starts from the rock known as the Tête de chien, on the D81. Another, much longer one, goes through the Capo d'Orto starting from the Piana stadium, about 5h. Finally, the last way to discover the creeks is by boat. Many companies offer this discovery but it is by far the least ecological solution, because tourists are more and more numerous and the presence of boats damages the sea bed. In any case, the Calanques de Piana remain a must for those who want to discover the majestic beauty of Corsica.
