This municipality was one of the strongholds of the Arrainchi lords, whose most important lordship was Attalà. It was re-populated at the end of the 17th century by shepherds from Alto Taravo. To the west, it includes the recent hamlet of Tipponu, near the ruins of St. George's Chapel, and to the east, the villages of Foce and Bilzese, founded in the 18th century, both of which have a sanctuary dedicated to St. Michael. To the south of Foce, the Castello di Barici was for three centuries a high point in the history of the Rocca and it is in Foce that the chronicler Ghjuvanni de la Grossa places the assassination of Rinuccio della Rocca, the last Corsican count.
