The Saint-Thierry massif forms a group of vineyards and forests, between the Vesle valley and the Marne-Aisne canal. In 496, Clovis donated this area to the bishop Saint Rémi and in the 6th century, Thierry, his disciple, established a monastery at the place called Mont-d'Hor. This monastery was prosperous during the thirteen centuries that followed, taking in its wake the surrounding villages, which developed their vineyards. On the vineyard side, the massif is planted on 833 ha mostly with pinot noir and pinot meunier, in accordance with its history as a great producer of red wine. Chardonnay is also beginning to develop today.
