Pierry owes its fame to a Benedictine monk, an emulator of Dom Pérignon, Brother Jean Oudart (1654-1742). Born in Dormans, he quickly became attached to the commune of Pierry. He spent most of his life developing the cultivation of the vine and taking an interest in bottling. Today, his tomb is in the church of Pierry, even though he was not an officiating brother. This is a kind of beautiful tribute to all the work he did during his life. He is considered to be the founder of the first Champagne house in Pierry, which produces and markets Champagne wine.
