The picturesque medieval village of Saint-Jean-de-Côle is listed as one of France's most beautiful villages, and is a prime location for many historical film shoots. It's also a charming stopover on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela. The Château de la Marthonie, a half-classical, half-Renaissance listed historic monument, dominates the village square with its imposing presence. A Romanesque-Byzantine church dating from the 12thcentury is just a stone's throw away, along with the old market hall and narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses. On your own or with a guide, take a trip over the medieval adobe-covered bridge over the Côle.
